Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are The Flowers Sold By Ragged Mountain Perennials Locally Sourced Or Imported?
All plants and flowers sold are grown here at Ragged Mountain Perennials.
  • Does Ragged Mountain Perennials offer a guarantee?
We guarantee you will receive a viable tuber true to variety, with an eye and healthy neck. Refunds will only be given for broken necks, rotted tubers, or damage from freezing via a photo proof email. Please examine your order immediately upon arrival and contact us via email (not social media) within 7 days if you see an issue with your order. After that 7 day period, the buyer accepts full responsibility for the tuber. We cannot be held responsible for improper storage, weather, growing conditions, pest damage, plant performance, failure to thrive or negligence.
  • Does Ragged Mountain Perennials test for plant viruses?
Because we are a home garden/ small-scale grower, it is not economically viable for us to virus test all of our plants. We go to great lengths to ensure our stock is clean, and we operate by the philosophy of "when in doubt, throw it out." This means that we discard any plant that looks suspicious for virus. We sanitize our cutting tools between each plant when cutting flowers and between tuber clumps when dividing plants in the fall. Our commitment to virus handling and sanitation reflects our dedication to providing our customers with the best possible products while ensuring the long-term health and vitality of our plants. The tubers we send to you, to the best of our knowledge, are healthy and ready to thrive.
  • What is your policy regarding crown or leaf gall?
All plants exhibiting gall are culled. We dig out and dispose dirt from the location of the plant with gall, followed by a minimum of 6 months of solarization.
  • Why did an item disappear from my cart?
If you notice items disappear from you cart or changed to “Unavailable” during the checkout process, it is because someone else checked out and paid for the item(s) before you. This is an issue which is beyond our control and dictated by our website platform. That said, items in your cart are not confirmed until checkout is fully complete.
  • What are your shipping policies?
We only ship within the US and all orders will be shipped USPS Priority mail. Orders cannot be altered or canceled once placed as the tubers/cuttings are already subtracted from our inventory. In some rare cases, if a tuber is not stored well enough through winter, we will issue a refund. You will receive a tracking number when your order ships. This is a pre-sale so all orders will ship out in April when the weather warms up and it is safe to do so. Dahlia rooted cuttings must ship separately from tuber orders If you would like earlier shipping please send an email to coordinate a time. Buyer assumes all responsibility of tuber health with early shipping. Heat packs are available upon request, for an additional charge. We cannot combine orders at this time. Sorry, no shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or Internationally at this time. Shipping costs are detailed below. Dahlia Tubers and Daylily fans: Flat rate shipping $14.99 Orders over $200.00 Shipping is FREE Rooted Cutting orders: Flat rate shipping $19.99 Orders over $200.00 Shipping is FREE
  • Can dahlia tuber orders ship with rooted cuttings?
No, the cuttings are tender and must be shipped separately from tuber orders.
  • Do you offer local pick up?
To pick up your order here at the farm please choose the pickup option at checkout. Farm pickup will be available April 13th and April 27th from 10am-3pm ONLY here at Ragged Mountain Perennials in Etlan, VA. Our address will be included when you contact us for local pick up via confirmation email. Shipping charges will be refunded when your order is picked up.
  • What can I expect with my order from Ragged Mountain Perennials?
Please keep in mind our tubers are coming out of cold storage and the eyes will most likely be dormant. Depending on conditions, dormant eyes may take 4-6 weeks to wake up. If you are a beginning dahlia grower the eye may be hard for you to see. You can begin to warm them up a few weeks before planting and the eye will be more pronounced. Any issues with product received damaged needs to be noted WITHIN 7 days of receiving your package. If you wait two months to open your box and all are rotted or shriveled, we will not issue a refund (Yes it happens). Dahlia rooted cuttings will arrive in a clam shell container with healthy well-rooted plants. The cuttings are not "hardened off", so you will need to plant them indoors and gradually acclimate them to sunlight, wind, and temperature changes before planting them directly in the ground.
  • What happens if my plant arrives damaged?
We guarantee that your plants will arrive intact. If plants break or are damaged during shipping, please take a picture of the damage and email us for either a refund or replacement plant (if available). It is common for some leaves to blacken or yellow during shipping, especially those touching the plastic clam shell. This is normal and should not affect the growth of the plant. Those leaves can be gently broken off and discarded. Plant stems may also be limp from being away from water and light for a few days. Once planted and cared for, they should firm up quickly.
